Hey Everyone!
On today’s review, we’re going to be covering Migos newest addition to their ‘Culture’ series, ‘Culture III’.
First impressions are always a good thing when it comes to albums, right? Well the Migos definitely created a bad impression just by looking at the length of the album. It is a 19 track album that feature a lot of music superstars e.g (Justine Bieber, Cardi B, Drake, and Future). Similar to me, you may look at this and wonder “Do you need this many features?” Well, despite the initial impression, the Migos delivered another album that had a few memorable hits.
Listening to the album about three times, I will say the group has the blueprint down for making an album that will sell. They know their sound, which producers to use, who to grab for features, the whole package. This could be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. For one, they know the album will sell which it is projected to sell 120k+ on first week. On the flipside. If you’ve been listening to their music since their rise to fame in 2013, you know they have the potential to make better quality music. In my opinion, ‘Culture III’ wasn’t a bad album; I just went into it with higher expectations which I shouldn’t have.
First Impressions:
As stated above, the newest addition to the trilogy is nowhere near bad. It just need a little more flavor to make it a possible contender for album of the year. I was pleasantly surprised at the production of the album. One thing that Migos knows how to do well is incorporate great sounds into their music. Whether it be their adlibs, the beats, or their flow on each track, the group knows how to put together a pretty solid album which is right in time for summer.
Best Song(s):
‘Avalanche’, ‘Roadrunner’, ’Vaccine’ and ‘Modern Day’ were some of my favorites from ‘Culture III’. Each song brought me back to parties in college where Migos was usually played. When I mentioned that this album was ready for summer, these four songs truly encapsulate that summer mood.
Worst Song(s):
For the life of me, I could not listen to ‘What You See’ multiple times. It’s not a horrible song but it doesn’t fit the Migos picture that we may be used to. The song features Justin Bieber which was interesting but it ended up sounding like a Bieber song that featured Migos.
Worst thing about the album?:
I feel like I mention this 24/7 but the length of an album is a big factor on whether I want to listen to it again and again. ‘Culture III’ was a lengthy album that featured 19 songs that came close to an hour and half of play time. A good three or four songs could definitely be cut to save use some time. The crazy thing is that the group has teased the possibility of a deluxe version of the album which just leads me to face palm. Please free the music industry from deluxe albums; just release a mixtape or EP!
Final Thoughts:
All in all, the newest addition to the Culture trilogy was fairly solid. It’s not an album I’d go back to listen to fully often but there are definitely some great songs to pick and choose from. I would encourage at least one listen to get some summer anthems but after that I wouldn’t bother having it on repeat. At the end of the day, I’d give the album a strong 6.5/10 stars.
Great write up as always couldn't agree with you more they know what sells and have just stuck with it. Keep it up looking forward to these write ups
